The National Veld & Forest Fire Act was last updated in 2003 with Chapter 2 to deal with FPAs. Several amendments have recently been proposed. In summary,

  • The Bill seeks to amend the title of the Act to “the National Veldfire Act”.
  • The Bill makes provision for the facilitation of the formation of Fire Protection Associations
          by a Municipality and/or Traditional Council. And,
  • The Bill compels a Municipality, State-Owned Enterprise, Public Entity and/or other
          Organs of State, which owns land, to join the Fire Protection Associations.
